Thanks to Doug Barton and the staff of KMTI for including us in their maintenance period! And a special thanks to John Tucker for arranging this test. This is a real chance for those on the East Coast to put a 2nd Utah station into their log books!

Is it Feb 19 or March 19??? The Date line says March 19.
I so hope this test is on 3/19 and not last Monday! KMTI would be my first station (AM or FM) from Utah and it would be my distance record.
Looking at the 10kw they plan on using, I may actually have a shot at this one. I live in Michigan
This would make Utah #3 for me, having heard KSL-1160 and KBJA-1640 previously. WSM usually puts a killer signal in here, but we'll have to see what happens.

WSM puts a killer signal in here, too. But it can be nulled with a little luck. I figure this is my best shot of hearing Utah and the only way I know for sure that I won't hear it by not waking up at 2:00 AM to try it!
KMTI is 1402 miles from my location. This would crush my current North American AM distance record of 1172 miles set by 540 CBK in Saskatchewan.
Sorry about hosing up the date of this test. Everything should be correct now.
Awesome! I didn't miss it!
Thank you for the update. I will definitely be listening on March 19th.
KMTI received here in Memphis with sweep tones and morse code. A big thanks to everyone involved in putting this together!
Brandon,
I tried for KMTI here in Michigan and I believe that I heard it.
What I was able to make out was very faint sweep tones. They sounded like something you would expect on a space ship. I was also able to hear morse code which may have spelled out the KMTI call letters.
I recorded this in Cool Edit. If I sent you a scoped version of the file, would you be able to positively ID KMTI?
Hi Jordan. Please post the clip on your blog and link to it here, or email it to Les at the email address in the KMTI post.
You are correct on the morse. We also have links to the NRC Sweep Tones audio clip in the "Tools and Resources" section here.
73,
Brandon
I couldn't figure out how to post the mp3 file in my blog. I went an easier route and e-mailed it to Les Rayburn, who was able to verify that I definitely heard KMTI.
At 1402 miles, KMTI becomes my longest US AM catch, shattering the old record set by WOAI by almost 300 miles. By logging Utah, I have now logged 35 states from my location.
